Short Hills was originally located within Springfield Township, Union County, New Jersey, and its eponymous hills are thought to have played a role in the movement of the Continental Army under George Washington during the Battle of Springfield in 1777. Today it is considered an unincorporated community located within Millburn township. Short Hills is a popular commuter town and has been named the “Richest Town in America” by Time Magazine in 2014 and In 2018, Bloomberg positioned Short Hills at fifth in the country in its “100 Richest Places” ranking. With its beautiful homes, tree-lined streets, weekly farmers markets, and sprawling parks, Short Hills continues to attract families of all ages looking to build a home. Short Hills residents belong to the Millburn township public school system and other public offerings.

Millburn/Short Hills School System

The Millburn Public School System is regarded as one of the best in the state. There are seven elementary schools and an award-winning middle school and high school. Millburn High School is consistently ranked high in national publications and is ranked #2 in NJ and #1 in Essex County by Niche. There are over 30 AP classes for high school students, numerous musical groups, and an extensive sports program in which about 50% of students participate in. 99% of seniors graduated and went on to attend four-year colleges. Special Education

Each of the Millburn Public schools has a representative on the District's Special Education Advisory Committee (SEPAC). This committee meets regularly to discuss Special Education programs. Caring Kids

Caring for Kids is a group of students dedicated to working closely with other students to foster growth, compassion, and education to mold members into contributing empowered members of society. With targeted community outreach and peer socialization, kids come together to help ease those who may need extra help into socializing and connecting with others. Recreation

Millburn-Short Hills residents can enjoy Gero Park year-round, with the main pool, featuring a water slide and a wading pool, as well as the Par 3 Golf Course and Tennis courts from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Historic Landmarks to Visit

The Paper Mill Playhouse

The Paper Mill Playhouse sits on a rich land with a history of paper mills and theaters burning down to due fires. The current playhouse opened its doors in the 1980s and has continued to produce critically acclaimed productions with ongoing education courses for the community. The Cora Hartshorn Arboretum

The Cora Hartshorn Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary, known as the Hartshorn Arboretum, sits on 16.5 acres of land in Short Hills. Over 3 miles of walking paths and trails were donated and preserved for the public to enjoy free of charge from dawn to dusk. Greenwood Gardens

Greenwood Gardens is a historic, 28-acre nature preserve in Short Hills. Boasting terraced gardens, meadows, woodlands, and teahouses designed in the early 20th century. After more than a century of private ownership, the garden today functions as a nonprofit organization open to all and supported by the public. The Newcomers-Encore Club

The Newcomers-Encore Club of Millburn-Short Hills is an excellent way to make new friends. Once a month, new members coffee is held once a month and a range of activities are offered to new town members to meet new people, settle in a bit easier, and socialize in an open and friendly environment. The WorkMom's Organization

The WorkMom's Organization of Millburn-Short Hills is an informal club for working moms of the town to build a network of support for moms balancing their careers, children, and personal lives. Communication and strong relationships are key ways for members to discover a new and effective way to balance and even get assistance from other women facing the same challenges. The Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society

The Historical Society is a local non-profit that focuses on learning, preserving, and disseminating historical information. There is a collection on display on the Hobart Avenue side of the Short Hills Train Station, but please note it is by appointment only.
